Medical Reserve Corps and Community Emergency Response Team

Manalapan Township established a Medical Reserve Corps in 2002.  It then built a Community Emergency Response Team within the same group in 2003.  As of February 2007 there are a total of more than 160 volunteers.

The Manalapan Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a unique model of combining two similar efforts that aim at recruiting community volunteers for helping assist communities in times of disaster.  The National leadership for MRC units originates out of the Office of the Surgeon General in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  The National leadership for CERT units originates from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in the Department of Homeland Security.

The Manalapan MRC-CERT provides a unique opportunity for community members to help support their community during times of emergency as well as helping educate the community using various strategies to become better prepared for emergencies.  Community members with both medical experience and credentials and those without medical backgrounds are welcome.  The Manalapan MRC-CERT provides training and equipment.  It schedules exercises and drills to practice skills.  It has become a very vibrant group.

Any resident, age 18 or over, is welcome to join.  An application is available on the web site.  For more information please feel free to call the MRC-CERT information line at 732-446-8348 or email to .
