Spice/K2

Spice/K2

What is Spice/K2?
The drug is a mixture of dried herbs and plant material that is covered or sprayed with chemicals, and sold in small packets. Product names besides K2 and    Spice include Blaze, Mojo, Genie, Red Ball, Voodoo Magic, Spice Gold, Yucatan Fire, Pulse, Genie, Ignie, Demond, Zohai, Serenity and Eclipse.

How is Spice/K2 used?

Although this drug is marketed and sold as “not for human consumption,” many young people are smoking it in hopes of getting a legal marijuana-like high. Spice/K2 can also be ingested, but it is not as effective.

The symptoms of Spice use include but are not limited:

-Users are anticipating a “relaxing” high from these drugs, they often get quite the opposite effect.

-A dangerously elevated heart rate and blood pressure

            -Anxiety

            -Numbness and tingling sensation

            -Nausea and vomiting

-Agitation, which can be servere and require sedation

            -Intense hallucinations amd delusions

Parents should be watchful of warning signs of “synthetic marijuana,” including:

`           -Elevated vital signs

            -A pale appearance

            -Agitation and hyperactivity

            -Confusion due to hallucinations.

What are the short term effects of Spice?

Short term effects include a high heart rate and blood pressure, anxiety, delusions or hallucinations, numbing and tingling sensations, nausea and vomiting. These side effects can even cause sedation. Since the different chemicals produce different side effects, it is nearly impossible to tell how much any given product will or dosage will affect the user. To make things worse, the production is completely unregulated, which means that one batch of any given product may affect the user differently than the next batch.

Since this is a newer drug, long term effects are not yet availalbe.
