Sweetman’s Lane Closure
Monmouth County has advised us that on or about November 9, 2010, Sweetman’s Lane will be closed between Kinney Road and Oakland Mills Road. The road will not be passable as the bridge is being replaced. The construction project is estimated to take one year. Please plan an alternate route or follow the posted detours. The Manalapan Township Police Department reminds all drivers to be alert and cautious while operating a motor vehicle within a construction zone. Fines are doubled for any motor vehicle violations within a construction zone.

Pediatric Flu Vaccination Clinic
The last scheduled flu vaccination clinic in 2010 will be held on Tuesday, November 9th from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm at Manalapan Town Hall. This clinic will provide vaccinations to children age 6 months and above. Ample supplies of vaccine allow us to also offer this time for vaccinations to all persons – not just children. Please feel free to share this information with friends and family who you know who may be looking for a flu shot opportunity. The fee is $20.00 or free to Seniors who present Medicare insurance cards.

2010 Monmouth County Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day - This program is for Monmouth County residents and institutions only. Identification is required. Schools and Municipalities must call (732) 922-2234 extension 10 to make special arrangements
2010 Date & Location - Upper Freehold, Saturday, October 2nd, 10 am - 3 pm, County Garage, Rt. 539 (South of Cream Ridge Golf Course)
Year-round service is available at our convenient Household Hazardous Waste facility in Tinton Falls. For your safety, appointments are required. Please call (732) 922-2234 for information. Hours are Monday to Friday 7:30 am - 3:30 pm and Saturday 7:30 am - 2:00 pm. (Closed for lunch 11:30 - 12:30).
Acceptable Items:
Pesticides, Herbicides, Fertilizers, Solvents, Thinners, Corrosives, Cleaners, Pool Chemicals, Liquid paints, Varnishes, Aerosol Cans (full or partially full). Used Motor Oil, Anti-Freeze, Gasoline, Batteries (Household or Automotive) and Propane BBQ Tanks, All items must be in closed containers with original labels. Maximum amount accepted is 200 lbs. of dry material and/or 20 gals. of liquid. No containers larger than 5 gal each.
Non-Acceptable Items:
Lab Reagents, Concrete, Electronics, Car Tires, Explosives, Radioactive Materials, and Asbestos. No unknown or unidentified materials allowed! No commercial or industrial contributors! Businesses must contract privately for proper disposal.

Manalapan Township Summer Recreation
Registration for the Summer Recreation program will be accepted beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 17th. The program is open to resident children currently in grades K-7. Program and registration information are available on the Township Website at WWW.MTNJ.ORG. Go to the Parks and Recreation page, then click on Summer Camp to get to the brochures.
New for this summer! 7th grade Travel Camp! This 5 week, all inclusive program is open to resident children currently in grade 7. Information for this program is also available on the Township Website.

Manalapan Township 2011 Photo Contest
“Celebrations”
Manalapan Township will be holding its third annual photo contest. The 2011 theme is “ Celebrations” – a contest of pictures of celebratory events. The contest is open to all Manalapan residents. Photographs do not have to be taken in Manalapan. The photograph could be of any topic that in the photographers eyes is a celebration. Township residents can only enter one photo. Photographs must include a brief description (25 words or less) and the location, event of the photo.
Photographs must be received by 4:30 pm on May 13, 2011. Photographs can be submitted by email to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) (file must be less than 1.5 mb) or dropped off at the Manalapan Township Health Department (photographic prints must not be larger than 5” x 7”). The photo contest is co-sponsored by the Manalapan Arts Council.

Manalapan Township offering CERT training
The Manalapan Township MRC-CERT will be presenting the 20 hour FEMA endorsed CERT training starting on February 7, 2011. The introductory session will be held in Manalapan Town Hall starting at 7:00 pm on February 7th. The training sessions will use mostly Monday evenings and Saturday mornings in order to meet the training requirements. The training is free and prepares the participants to respond to certain emergencies. Pre-registration is not required but appreciated.

Trash and recycling for Christmas Eve and New Years Eve
Waste Management will be picking up garbage on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.
All garbage should be placed curbside the night before or prior to 6 am thru 6 pm.
Residents are allowed to have up to eight, 50 gallon containers curbside.
Please be advised that the Recycling Center will be closed Christmas and New Years Day!

Trash and recycling for Thanksgiving weekend.
For residents who have Monday/Thursday collection, trash will not be collected on Thursday November 25th. The next collection pick up will be Monday November 29th.
For residents with Tuesday/Friday collection, Friday, November 26th will be a normal trash collection.
Public Works recycling yard will be closed Thursday & Friday. Saturday the recycling yard will be open 8am – 2pm.

Little Soldiers Toy Drive
Manalapan Township will be participating in the Little Soldiers Toy Drive which collects toys for the children of deployed military personnel. Stars will be displayed at the Manalapan Township Municipal Building and we are encouraging residents to pick a star or two and return the gift to Manalapan Township Administration Department no later than Dec. 9, 2010.

Manalapan Township’s Halloween Events
The Manalapan Monster Mania Halloween event is scheduled for today, Wednesday, October 27. Due to the weather, the program has been moved to the Kuschick Pavilion (parking lot 2 in the Manalapan Recreation Center).
The event is sure to be a hit with all of our young ghosts and goblins!
All Monster Mania activities are free of charge.
Event schedule:
6:00 p.m. - Halloween Dance performance by Rising Star Dancers
6:20 p.m. – Halloween sing along by Miss Melissa’s Music for Aardvarks
6:35 p.m. – Halloween Show by Mad Science
7:00 p.m. – Halloween Parade and costume contest
7:00 p.m. – Fright Fest (games, crafts)
7:00 p.m. – “Fractured Fairy Tales” haunted trail
If there is inclement weather at 7:00 p.m., the parade will be canceled,
however all other activities will take place.

Safe Trick or Treating for Resident Children
Ghosts and goblins of all kinds will invade the Manalapan Township Municipal Building where they can visit every department and receive treats. Halloween is about fun and you never want anything to happen that would interfere with that enjoyment and that is why we offer a safe trick or treating environment for all resident children. The Municipal Building will be open from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.
Donations of candy for the Halloween Hullaballoo are being provided by Wegman’s and Foodtown.

The Township Committee has authorized the sale of surplus property which is no longer needed by the Township. The sale will take place on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 10:00 am at the Department of Public Works Yard located at 207 Route 522 Manalapan.

Fall Leaf Collection
We have expanded our leaf collection program this fall. Leaves will be collected every Monday in November and December beginning on November 1st. Leaves must be placed in biodegradable bags. Bagged leaves containing twigs, grass, brush, weeds or other debris will not be collected.
Bags can be purchased at the Public Works Department on Mondays-Fridays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. These bags are sold in bundles of 5 for a cost of $2.00. You can also purchase these bags from local retailers.
